About Me - Kristen D. Hanna
I’ve always been passionate about stories—the ones we tell, the ones we inherit, the ones we have to dig a little deeper to uncover, and the ones where dark secrets hide. That passion led me to genealogy, a journey that started with a simple question about my family’s past and turned into a lifelong pursuit of piecing together the histories that time almost forgot.
Growing up, I moved frequently, even living overseas for a time. That experience shaped my love for history, giving me a deep appreciation for the connections that link people across time and place. Today, I live near the Appalachian Mountains—technically in the DC metro area, but far enough from the city to enjoy some peace and quiet. I’m a proud University of Delaware and Georgetown alum, always looking for new ways to learn and explore.
I work full-time in learning and talent development, helping others grow in their careers and reach their full potential.
Beyond genealogy, I’m passionate about raising awareness for mental health and ensuring important conversations happen. I also love traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends. This year, I decided to take on a new challenge—gardening for the first time. Let’s just say my green thumb is still a work in progress.

Meet Sherman & Bailey: The True Stars of This Journey
While I may be the one uncovering long-lost family stories, Sherman and Bailey are the real driving force behind this operation—whether I like it or not.
Sherman: The Historian’s Best Friend
Named after General William Tecumseh Sherman, this guy lives up to his namesake—calm, strategic, and always prepared for a long march (to the couch, preferably with a blanket). While I pore over records and archives, Sherman provides moral support, curling up next to me like a seasoned research assistant who knows the importance of patience. His battle tactics include stealthy napping, perfecting the art of looking dignified, and ensuring I never research for too long without a well-timed reminder that he exists.
Bailey: The Chaos Commander
Bailey, on the other hand, operates on pure energy and enthusiasm. He was named after Dr. Bailey, the incredible vet who cared for our late corgi, Trey, during his battle with Degenerative Myelopathy. Coincidentally, he also shares a name with Lieutenant General Ronald L. Bailey, the first African American to command the 1st Marine Division—and honestly, it fits. Like a true Marine, Bailey believes in taking charge of every situation, which usually means demanding attention, insisting on playtime, and ensuring no moment goes by without action.
If Sherman is the quiet strategist, Bailey is the fearless, loving, attention-seeking whirlwind who makes sure no one in the house forgets that he is, in fact, the main character. Whether he’s barreling into the room at full speed, dramatically flopping onto my lap, or demanding ear scratches like a five-star general issuing commands, Bailey is chaotic, affectionate, and absolutely impossible to ignore.
